Recognition Levels within Toastmasters

Certain "milestones" are reached as members pursue their speaking goals. Recognition occurs not only at the club level, but also the Area, District, Division, and even International levels. Listed below are the levels of achievement for Toastmaster members, along with the criterion to achieve each level.

Communication Awards Criterion
CTM (Competent Toastmaster)
  • Prepare and present the 10 speeches from the Communication and Leadership manual (provided to members upon joining.)
ATM-B (Advanced TM - Bronze)
  • Prepare and present 10 additional speeches from any of the 10 Advanced Leadership speaking manuals (manuals are available from the VP of Education)
ATM-S (Advanced TM - Silver)
  • Prepare and present 10 additional speeches from any of the 10 Advanced Leadership speaking manuals not previously used (manuals are available from the VP of Education)
  • Present 2 speeches from the Better Speaker Series or the Successful Club Series (available from the VP of Education)
ATM-G (Advanced TM - Gold)
  • Prepare and present 10 additional speeches from any of the 10 Advanced Leadership speaking manuals not previously used (manuals are available from the VP of Education)
  • Conduct a Success/Leadership program, Success/Communication program, or a Youth Leadership Program (see club President for more details)
Leadership Awards Criterion
CL (Competent Leader)
  • Achieve CTM
  • Serve at least 6 months as a club officer, attending at least one officer training event
  • Present 2 speeches from the Better Speaker Series or the Successful Club Series (available from the VP of Education
AL (Advanced Leader)
  • Achieve CTM
  • Serve at least 1 year as a district officer
  • Complete the High Performance Leadership Program
  • Served successfully as a club Sponsor, Mentor, or Specialist
DTM (Distinguished Toastmaster)
  • Achieve ATM-G award
  • Achieve AL award
