Receiving our charter in November of 1998, Talk of Des Moines Toastmasters began with 20+ members.  While the original group of members began with only American Republic Insurance employees,  the group has expanded beyond its original boundaries. We have added members from various downtown Des Moines businesses. For a look at the club's diverse membership, check out our most current membership list. You might see someone you know!

You can reach your communications goals

Talk of Des Moines Toastmasters enjoys a relaxed atmosphere while still adhering to the weekly meeting agenda. The unconventional role of the Quizmaster is to gather questions that will be asked at the end of the meeting. Candy and other prizes are awarded for correct answers. Another unique feature of our club is that members are allowed to sign up for their own speech speaking dates, which gives you more control over your already hectic schedule.

Talk of Des Moines can help!

Throughout the club's history, several members have achieved speaking milestones & awards. As the club members progress in their own self-development, they also help the club achieve status from Toastmasters International. In 1999, our club received the "Distinguished Club Award" by achieving 5 of the 10 goals required by International Headquarters.

Club Constitution and Bylaws

Club Constitution ~  Bylaws: page 1 ~  Bylaws: page 2 ~  Bylaws: page 3

On September 19, 2005, the members of Talk of Des Moines Toastmasters voted to amend the bylaws to acknowledge the new dues structure from Toastmasters International.

Article III of the Bylaws of the Talk of Des Moines Toastmasters Club, 5819, shall be amended as follows:

Sec. 1. The initiation fee for individual membership in the Club shall be $20.00, payable as provided in the Club Constitution.

Sec. 2. The dues of this Club for active individual members shall be $34.00 ($27 Toastmasters International dues + $7 Talk of Des Moines Toastmasters local dues) per person per six months. Such dues shall be payable in advance on or before April 1st and October 1st for the following six months. For new members joining in months other than April and October, Toastmasters International dues are pro-rated at $4.50 per month; Talk of Des Moines Toastmasters dues are prorated at $3.50 per three month period or any portion thereof.

We invite you to visit our club and see for yourself how non-threatening public speaking can be.
